Litter-Robot 4 Red Ping Pong Motion in Drawer | Litter-Robot (2024)

IMPORTANT
  1. Make sure your unit is plugged in.
  2. Make sure your unit is connected and online.
  3. Make sure your firmware is up-to-date. If the app does not give you the option to update, you have the latest version.

Preparation

Litter-Robot is equipped with the SafeCat system that uses the cat presence motion sensor to detect motion in the waste drawer.

If your unit displays a red ping-pong light bar, this indicates that motion was detected in the waste drawer and the globe will cycle to the Dump position to allow the object to escape.

You will also receive a notification on your phone if you use the Whisker app.

If the drawer was removed and reinserted multiple times in a short period of time or you were recently cleaning in the waste drawer area, the motion detection sensor could have been inadvertently triggered.

  1. First, let’s check inside the waste drawer to see if there are any foreign objects that could be activating the sensors.

  2. Now, short press theResetbutton to clear the fault.

A firm, level surface is required for accurate detection of cats and weight readings.

Inspecting the anti-pinch sensors

We will be inspecting the cat presence and anti-pinch sensors.

The anti-pinch sensors are located at the sides of the dump port within the base. These are active at all times to ensure we can detect any motion within the drawer.

  1. Make sure both pinch bars are free of debris and clean.
  2. Press inward on each of the pinch bars. You should hear an audible click. This ensures the anti-pinch sensors are working properly.

Inspecting the cat presence sensor

The cat presence sensor looks inside the drawer and detects any motion. A specific motion profile must be present to activate the alert.

  1. Identify and remove the cover for the cat presence sensor.

Why does my Litter-Robot say drawer is full but it isn t? ›

Cleaning the sensors

Any debris on the bezel, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the DFI sensors. This can cause the unit to inaccurately measure the waste drawer level. Wipe the bezel area where the sensors are located with a dry clean cloth to remove debris such as hair or dust.

How do you reset the drawer level on a Litter-Robot 4? ›

Short press the Reset button, then short press the Cycle button to run a Clean cycle. Check your app to ensure that the waste drawer level displayed is accurate. Successful: If your waste drawer gauge is accurate (within 5%), you've been successful.

Where is the drawer sensor on the Litter-Robot 4? ›

There are 3 laser sensors located in the top of the bezel, called Curtain Sensors, as well as a cat sensor weight scale located in the base of the unit.

Why is the timing light red on my Litter-Robot? ›

A flashing red light indicates that the cat sensor has been activated continuously for 2 minutes or more by either too much weight in the unit or your cat not leaving the unit. Make sure your cat has left the unit, then check for excess weight, such as too much litter or waste.

Why does my Litter-Robot keep saying it is full when it is not? ›

Check for obstructions blocking the drawer full indicator (DFI) sensors. There are two sensors inside the base, above where the waste drawer would sit. Debris, such as dust or cat fur, can interfere with the DFI sensor. This can cause the unit to inaccurately trigger a drawer-full indication.

How often should I deep clean my litter in robot 4? ›

Cleaning your Litter-Robot

It's important to do a basic globe cleaning every 1-3 months and a deep cleaning at least every 3 months. Over time, small clumps can accumulate within the internal pocket of the globe, which can contribute to weight-related errors.

How often do you empty a Litter-Robot drawer? ›

Typically, you will empty the waste drawer once per week if you have one cat. If you have more than one cat using Litter-Robot, you will typically empty the waste drawer twice every seven to ten days. Perform a full cleaning and litter change every one to three months.

What does red litter mean? ›

Red granules indicate the presence of blood, which could mean serious health concerns for your cat. If this color is shown in your cat's litter, we recommend contacting your veterinarian immediately.

How do I update Litter-Robot 4? ›

Tap on the Settings gear in the top right corner. On the Robot Settings page, tap Firmware Updates. On the Firmware Updates page, tap Update to begin the update process. This may take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Why is my litter robot 4 red? ›

If your unit's light bar is solid red, this indicates that the cat sensor has been triggered (kitty entered globe). The unit will cycle once the cycle delay countdown is up or if you press the Reset button.

What does red light mean on self cleaning litter box? ›

If your litter box has a solid red light, that indicates an obstruction in your litter box. Follow the troubleshooting steps below: Clear out any obstructions, like a clump, near the rake. Make sure the litter is between the min and max fill lines. Too much litter can trigger the sensors.
