In Classic, there are no passive combat bonuses for choosing specificprofessions. This means that you are free to choose whatever you would like.Despite this, professions can be incredibly important for lots of things, andit is important to consider the possible benefits before choosing. Someprofessions are great for making gold, while some are more suited to helpingyou in actual gameplay.

Especially at the start, materials will be expensive. This is especiallytrue for minerals, herbs, and skins that come from higher level zones andenemies. Mining, Herbalism, andSkinning are all great choices early on, as they allow you tofarm much needed crafting materials yourself without having to buy them. Thisis a great way to level up a profession that uses those materials, such asgoing Mining and Engineering. Warlocks are especially good for Skinning becauseof how powerful they are at soloing.

One of the single most expensive materials in the game is Devilsaur Leather from the Devilsaurs in Un'Goro Crater. If you choose to goSkinning and are able to reach Level 60 quickly, you can gofarm these before they become heavily contested. After more people start toreach Level 60, Devilsaurs will be farmed by many people, and it will beextremely difficult to reliably find them. If you are on a PvP server, this canbe especially dangerous, due to the groups that will form to find them on bothfactions. This is really only viable early on though, and only if you are oneof the first on your server to 60, or if you are being supported by yourguild.

Tailoring, Leatherworking,Blacksmithing, Enchanting, andAlchemy are all excellent choices for professions and can bequite profitable. Tailoring is especially good for Warlocks however because of Robe of the Void and several other pieces that are pre-raid BiS.Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking also craft important gear that people willwant, while Enchanting and Alchemy can make consumables that are important forraiding and PvP. Alchemy especially has tons ofimportant potions, elixirs, and flasks that are high in demand. In addition,Alchemy has the Arcanite Bar transmute, which provides you with a steady streamof income just from transmuting it on cooldown. Tailoring is also especiallygood for Warlocks however because of Robe of the Void and several otherpieces that are pre-raid BiS.

While not a profitable profession, Engineering can be veryimportant for PvP and raiding. The different bombs and trinkets are verystrong, making the profession worth considering if you want to be competitiveat either PvP or raiding. Some higher end guilds will actually require theirmembers to have Engineering, with some even going as far as requiring Physicaldamage dealers to be Gnomish Engineers because of how good Gnomish Battle Chicken is.

With the release of Zul'Gurub, Tailoring is nowa much more profitable profession. The Bloodvine caster DPS set is BiSfor all of the cloth casters, and can be quite profitable to make. Additionally,your Mooncloth cooldown is an easy, consistent way to make a bit of gold.

Warlocks are one of the best solo classes in the game, making solo farming agreat way to making gold. There are many enemies and dungeons that can be veryprofitable to farm.

If you can get your hands on a Dire Maul North instance that has already been clearedwith a tribute run, you can use the lockout to sell the DM buffs to raiders. Threeof the ogres inside the instance give powerful buffs when talked to after the instanceis cleared, and many raiders will pay a few gold to get summoned for the buffs right beforethey raid. If you get an instance cleared and take a couple of friends to help summonpeople on a popular raid night, you can easily clear 100g+ per hour just summoning peopleto get their buffs.

In addition to having several pieces of pre-raid BiS gear, Maraudon is ahigher level dungeon that is possible for Warlocks to solo. There are two veryprofitable things you can do in Maraudon.

Firstly, you can clear all of the bosses just to vendor the gear you get.This will net you a fair bit of gold from the vendored items, and if you clearit efficiently enough, can be a competitive gold source.

The other option is to bring along melee DPS, such as Rogues and Warriors,and charge them gold for you to solo the instance and kill the final boss,Princess Theradras. She drops Blackstone Ring, which is BiS forPhysical damage dealers. Because it is such a sought after item, many peoplewould prefer to pay a Warlock or Hunter gold to help them farm it, thus guaranteeing themthe ring if it drops. This is an especially profitable method early on, whenpeople are still working on gearing up for raids.

Having the enchant is rare, enabling you to chargepeople decent amounts of gold to enchant their weapons. The enemies at Tyr'sHand also drop Runecloth, Major Healing Potion, and otheruseful items.

There are tons of high level elementals that drop the various essences, suchas Essence of Fire. These are needing early on and can be quite profitableto farm.
