whenever i see okra, it is always more pricey that most vegetables. it is not a luxury item to be sure, but it grows in very hot weather and thrives in warm weather. i have never heard of a frost killing off the crop. is is labor intensive or needs equipment to harvest? is it just supply and demand? thanks, brandon

Most okra production occurs in Florida and other SE states. Two planting and harvest seasons are common. Imports are high from other countries - especially during Nov. thru March when US production is limited due to cool whether. It is quite labor intensive - with fields being picked every other day and harvest maturity does not occur at the same time.
