This week, UWA academics and students attended the 2024 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference in Hobart, Tasmania. Our Indigenous students presented at the conference about their experiences in the program. Shaun Tatipata (Senior Lecturer and Aboriginal Health Practitioner) and A/Prof Khyber Alam (Deputy Head and Course Director) presented on Indigenous-led collaborative care models initiated by UWA. Eric Dalgety (Aboriginal Health Practitioner and incredible musician) and Sophia Gerritsma (Academic Clinician) presented on the benefits of the permanent eye clinic within the Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Services (GRAMS). The novel and collaborative eye care and tertiary education delivery model received an award for excellent contributions to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health in rural WA. Thank you WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) & GRAMS.
