Unveiling the Elite: 5 UMaine Women's Basketball Stars Among America East's Top 25 Over 25 Years

Unleash the power of basketball's legacy!

In the annals of women's basketball, the University of Maine (UMaine) has left an indelible mark. Among the pantheon of America East Conference (AEC) players, five UMaine women stand tall, their names etched in the annals of basketball glory. But here's where it gets controversial... Were they truly the best? Dive in to explore the debate and discover the stories behind these stellar players.

The AEC, a powerhouse in women's basketball, has witnessed the rise of many exceptional players over the past 25 years. Among them, the UMaine women's basketball team has emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Forward Heather Ernest, guards Kim Corbitt, Blanca Millan, Anne Simon, and Sigi Koizar were selected to the AEC's top 25 players list. But why were they chosen? And what makes their inclusion so significant?

The Debate Unveiled

The AEC's top 25 players list is a testament to the conference's rich history and the evolution of women's basketball. However, some argue that the criteria for selection may not be entirely objective. For instance, players who played at least two seasons in the AEC from 2000-01 to 2024-25 and earned all-league honors at least twice were eligible. But what about players who may have had exceptional careers but didn't meet these specific criteria? Was their impact any less significant?

The Stars of UMaine

Let's take a closer look at the five UMaine women who made the cut. Anne Simon, a native of Sandweiler, Luxembourg, is the school's fifth leading all-time scorer with 1,982 points. She averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game during her 130-game career. Her 1,982 points are the 12th most in league history, and her 280 steals are fifth-most in school history. Simon was also the league tournament's most outstanding player in 2023-24.

Blanca Millan, a native of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is sixth on the all-time scoring list at UMaine and 13th in America East with 1,974 points. She concluded her UMaine career averaging 15.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.8 assists over 126 games. Millan was a two-time league tournament most outstanding player and an All-America East first team and all-defensive team selection three times.

Kim Corbitt, a two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year, is fourth on the school's career assists list with 436. She averaged 7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 118 career games. Corbitt was a two-time All-America East selection.

Heather Ernest, a native of Farmington, is seventh on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,804 points in
