On January 3rd, Tiny's opened its doors, inspired by the culinary prowess of Marcus' mother, Tania Edwards. This 10-seat gem, with its focus on takeout, offers a carefully crafted menu that's a celebration of soul food simplicity.
"It's as simple as possible, yet incredibly delicious," Marcus shares about the menu, which features fried chicken wings, barbecued wings, tenders, and a host of sides like collard greens and mac and cheese. "It's like the Chipotle of soul food!"
The story of Tiny's is a heartwarming one. In 2020, Tania started cooking affordable soul food from her Mastic home, driven by her passion and the belief that her grandmother instilled in her. Marcus, with his business acumen from Babson College, saw the potential and decided to bring his personal training expertise and restaurant training to the family business.
"I wanted to create something special, and with my mother's recipes and my business knowledge, we've got a winning combination," Marcus explains. "And let's not forget the power of word-of-mouth! When the food is this good, it speaks for itself."
As Marcus's interest grew, he sought inspiration from his uncle's successful restaurants in North Carolina, and when the perfect space in Riverhead became available, he jumped at the chance.
"Tiny's is more than a restaurant; it's a family legacy. My mother's nickname inspired the name, and her hard work and delicious food are what make it special," Marcus adds.
