This Trending Now story features the most-saved kitchen photos uploaded to Houzz since Jan. 1, 2021.
Any snapshot of popular kitchen photos is bound to feature a wide range of styles and features. And the following countdown of the most-saved kitchen photos so far in 2021 is no different. But a close look shows that a focus on hardworking storage, an airy layout and lots of white and wood is an approach that will often lead to an outstanding kitchen design.
10. Island Style
A beverage or wine fridge on the end of an island that faces away from the kitchen, as shown in this space, lets guests and family members grab a drink without entering the main cooking path. That feature, along with a mix of metal finishes, a contrasting island color and upper cabinets that extend to the ceiling made this kitchen a recent favorite among Houzz users.

9. Creative Corner
Corner cabinets are tricky spots in a kitchen and can often result in a deep cavern in which small appliances and other things get lost or forgotten about. Swing-out storage accessories like the one show here can bring items from the back of the cabinet to a more accessible spot. It’s a feature that made this kitchen photo from Kitchen Design Partners among the most-saved photos so far this year.

8. Shaker-Style Chic
White Shaker-style cabinets are the most popular choice among homeowners, according to the 2021 U.S. Houzz Kitchen Trends Study. So it’s no surprise the cabinet style shows up frequently in this countdown, including in this Miami kitchen by Divco Custom Homes. Meanwhile, greige walls warm the otherwise blue-and-white palette, creating a soft coastal vibe.

7. Butcher Block Beauty
If you find working with multiple cutting boards to be tedious, consider going for an all-butcher block island top like the one in this kitchen by Six Walls. It creates an expansive, versatile worksurface and adds a big dollop of warmth and contrast, especially in a mostly white kitchen.
6. Classic Character
Interior designer Stephanie Frees of Plain and Posh layered thoughtful details into this white kitchen. Natural woven counter stools, anglepoise sconces, beveled backsplash tile and a furniture-like island give the space personality without going overboard.

4. Nurturing Nature
Designers at skipped upper cabinets and instead wrapped this kitchen on three sides with windows that frame leafy views. The team played off those views with natural materials like knotty wood floors, soapstone countertops and wood details on the ceiling beam and vent hood.
3. Pretty Palette and Handsome Hood
Designer Lisa Rossman of LL Design and her clients were also inspired by the outdoors when designing this kitchen. Soft greens and light wood tones provide a calming nature-inspired palette. One standout feature is the vent hood’s eye-catching geometric pattern, which is composed of wood slats.

2. Cabin Charm
Designer Laura Tays of had to find a compromise between a husband’s love of rustic style and a wife’s more modern tastes in this lake house. Using natural materials like the wood ceiling, soapstone countertop, stone bar wall and zellige tiles, she created the desired rustic cabin-inspired flavor. Meanwhile, she used straight lines, gridded patterns and modern accents to strike the right balance between the couple’s style preferences.
1. White-and-Wood Winner
The most popular kitchen photo so far in 2021 illustrates many trends popular among Houzz readers. Kate Adams of Case Design/Remodeling used beautiful hickory wood and black accents to contrast the white cabinetry and backsplash. The custom island has a furniture-like look. A geometric tile backsplash is a contemporary alternative to classic subway tile. And the matte black faucet has an integrated pull-down sprayer.
