The average price of a pint in 150+ countries: Interactive world map (2022)

We have compiled data on the average prices of beer in the most populated cities around the world. The analysis looks at 177 countries so you can find out where your city ranks. The cost for a pint ranges from £0.59 in Burundi all the way up to £9.98 in Qatar, a slight decrease from last year’s prices, which spanned from £0.32 in Venezuela to £10.86 in Qatar. London is still pricier than most of the list, with the average cost of £5.50 for a pint coming in as the 18th most expensive of the 177 cities. Compared to the world average for the 177 countries in 2021 (£2.36, up 0.4% from last year’s world average of £2.35), London charges more than double (134% higher) for the same drink.

The price of a pint in the UK

It comes as no surprise that the UK’s most expensive city to grab a drink is still London (£5.50). The cheapest place to get a pint (out of the 42 largest cities analysed) is Perth. A beer there will cost you £3.07, which is £2.26 less than London and 79p less than the UK average of £3.86. Overall, the average cost of a pint in the UK has decreased by 2% this year from 2020, when the average was £3.94, but has increased by 4% from the UK average of £3.70 in 2019.

Following Perth, Swansea and Peterborough are the second and third cheapest cities to buy a beer (meaning in these cities you won’t need to be searching for the best credit cards in order to get you and your friends a round of drinks!). Compared to the £3.07 for Perth, Swansea charges £3.26 and Peterborough’s average is £3.28. On the pricier side, Brighton and Hove is the second most expensive city to buy a beer, charging £4.83 (19p less than last year’s price of £5.02).
