How to Cook Teriyaki Salmon and Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce

To make this salmon all you have to do prep a quick teriyaki sauce, then pour over salmon fillets and bake it in the oven until cooked through.

To start you’ll mince garlic, and ginger. Add that to a saucepan along with soy sauce, water, honey, brown sugar and fresh lemon juice.

Bring that mixture to a light boil then stir in a water/cornstarch slurry (which will thicken the sauce up perfectly) and let that boil for a minute.

Then place the salmon in a sprayed baking dish, pour the sauce over the salmon, bake it in the oven for 12 – 15 minutes. Sprinkle on a few garnishes if desired and your moments away from such a tasty dinner!

Baked Teriyaki Salmon or Pan Seared

You could also pan fry the salmon if you’d rather, then pour the sauce over after it’s cooked. But I do like here how baking it allows some time for the sauce to seep into the salmon and give it some flavor.

And if you like one more layer of flavor try it with a little sesame oil , about 1/4 – 1/2 tsp. A little goes a long way. It’s definitely optional and I don’t always add it.

What to Serve with Teriyaki Salmon

I like the look of the white rice here but to make it healthier I do prefer to serve it with brown rice. Have you tried making brown rice in your Instant Pot yet?? I did the other day and it worked great!

And good options for steamed or sautéed veggies to pair with this include asparagus (take advantage of it right now while it’s in season), broccoli, carrots, zucchini, bok choy, or cabbage.

Teriyaki Sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a baking dish* with non-stick cooking spray.

  • In a small saucepan whisk together low-sodium soy sauce, 6 Tbsp water, honey, brown sugar, garlic, ginger and lemon juice and bring mixture to a light boil over medium heat.

  • Whisk together cornstarch with remaining 2 Tbsp water, then add to sauce mixture in saucepan.

  • Let mixture boil, whisking constantly, for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  • Place salmon in baking dish then pour teriyaki sauce evenly over salmon (I also like to lift the fillets up so the sauce runs right under).

  • Bake in preheated oven 12 - 15 minutes until salmon has cooked through (cooked time will vary depending on thickness of salmon).

  • Serve warm topped with some of the teriyaki sauce from the baking dish (use excess sauce for steamed asparagus or broccoli on the side) and chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

  • *I recommend using a baking dish that's just large enough to fit salmon while leaving a little space between fillets.
