Is Rushmore Cave worth it? ›

It's a total must-do attraction for anyone visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota. This tour is approximately 1 hour in length. During the summer season, cave tours leave regularly so come at your convenience, no reservations required. (Just know that the last regular cave tour leaves 1 hour before closing.)

Rushmore Cave is the least strenuous (200-300 steps) and is a 1 hour tour. Famous for the largest concentration of stalactites and stalagmites found within a cave system in the Black Hills. Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns has 300-400 steps and is 1 hour long.

Black Elk has been called the fifth face of Mount Rushmore, and it was estimated that 5,000 photos were taken of him every day. A wooden bust of Ben Black Elk had previously been on display at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre, South Dakota.

The Presidential Trail is 0.6 miles and takes you on a scenic walking loop offering you various angles of Mount Rushmore National Memorial as you go. The first 0.2 miles of the trail is paved to accommodate wheelchairs from the Grand View Terrace to viewing areas at the base of the mountain.

Can I See Mount Rushmore in One Day? Yes! Mount Rushmore National Memorial has some great things to do, but you definitely don't need more than a day to fully experience the memorial. 4-5 hours is sufficient to get through this entire can't-miss list.

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is owned by the federal government and is administered by the National Park Service. Most of the land surrounding the National Memorial is also federal owned, but is administered by the Forest Service as Black Hills National Forest.
