Get ready to witness the power of Mega Evolution in the Pokémon Trading Card Game's newest expansion, Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames! This expansion brings an array of exciting new cards, including two Mega Evolution Pokémon, several playful Darkness-type Pokémon, and a wonderful Item card. Let's take a closer look at five of the most intriguing cards coming to the expansion on November 14, 2025.
Mega Heracross ex: This Single Horn Pokémon exudes herculean power in this expansion. With an ephemeral etching of its male form behind it, Mega Heracross ex can deliver devastating attacks. For two Grass Energy, Mega Heracross ex's Juggernaut Horn attack does 100 damage. If the Pokémon was damaged by an attack during your opponent's last turn, Juggernaut Horn does that much more damage on top of the initial damage. Alternatively, it can attack with Mountain Ramming for three Grass Energy, dealing 170 damage and discarding the top two cards of your opponent's deck.
Mega Charizard X ex: Mega Charizard X ex ignites the battlefield with its fierce Inferno X attack. For each Fire Energy you discard from among your Pokémon, Mega Charizard X ex does 90 damage. The more Fire Energy you discard, the higher the damage potential! The artwork features phantasmal flames streaking across the dark skies, with Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard bathed in the glow of the firelight below.
Toxtricity: Toxtricity is ready to rock out with its Sinister Surge Ability. Once during your turn, you can search your deck for a Basic Darkness Energy card and attach it to one of your Benched Darkness Pokémon, shuffling your deck afterward. If you attached Energy to a Pokémon using Sinister Surge, place two damage counters on that Pokémon. Toxtricity can still use its Gentle Slap attack for two Darkness Energy and one Energy of any type, dealing 100 damage.
Mega Gengar ex: Mega Gengar ex's Mega Evolution is a ghoulish presence on the battlefield. Its Void Gale attack does 230 damage and requires you to move an Energy from Mega Gengar ex to one of your Benched Pokémon. This pairs well with Toxtricity's Sinister Surge Ability, giving you even more Energy acceleration options for Darkness-type Pokémon. Mega Gengar ex's Shadowy Concealment Ability can keep you in the game longer, reducing the number of Prize cards your opponent takes if one of your Darkness Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent's Pokémon ex.
Sableye: Sableye rounds out our ensemble of Darkness-type Pokémon. Its Cocky Claw attack is powered up if you have any Stage 2 Darkness-type Pokémon on your Bench, such as Mega Gengar ex, adding 70 damage on top of the 20 damage it does to your opponent's Pokémon. Sableye looks like it's shielding itself from the harsh sunlight shining down on it and its gems in this illustration by osare. Perhaps it will soon return to dwelling in the gloom of the cave.
Wondrous Patch: This swirling, shiny illustration of Wondrous Patch by Studio Bora Inc. showcases the mesmerizing purple and pink hues commonly used to portray Psychic-type moves. This Item card allows you to attach a Basic Psychic Energy card from your discard pile to one of your Benched Psychic-type Pokémon, providing a handy boost to your Energy acceleration when needed.
