If there is one thing (besides golf) that the Masters golf tournament is known for, it’s their food! Delightfully inexpensive sandwiches like their famous Masters Egg Salad sandwiches and of course, my favorite, the Pimento Cheese sandwich are served up for just $1.50 in thin, green wrappers to spectators to enjoy as they watch the tournament.

My husband was a golf pro for almost a decade and now manages the state tournaments here in Tennessee, so it’s safe to say that we LOVE golf at our house.

In fact, my daughter was born on Masters Sunday (the nurses joked that I should name the baby after the winner… it was Bubba Watson that year – haha). We served these same Masters Pimento Cheese Sandwiches at her 4th (FORE!) golf birthday party!

The original Masters pimento cheese recipe appears in an old Tea Time at the Masters cookbook from the Junior League of Augusta, but the food distribution services have changed over the years at the Masters, so the recipe has slightly varied over the years. Masters Pimento Cheese Ingredients

  • Cheddar Cheese: I use a yellow sharp cheddar cheese, grated straight from the block. It has the best flavor!
  • Monterey Jack Cheese: You can stick to all cheddar cheese if you prefer, or add in some Monterey Jack for creaminess.
  • Cream Cheese: Softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
  • Pimentos: Be sure they are diced and drained. You can usually find them at the grocery store in 4 ounce jars, but feel free to add more in if you like!
  • Mayonnaise: Want that true Southern pimento cheese? Grab Duke’s brand mayonnaise!
  • Onion Powder & Garlic Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper: Feel free to add more if you like a little heat! Or spice it up with jalapeños.
  • Salt & Pepper: To taste
