Lifeproof Coffee - The Upgraded Recipe (2024)

You’ve probably heard of Butter in your coffee, but never thought to add it to your morning routine, because, well...butter in coffee? We instinctively recoil because of what we've been told about dieting: we should lose the fat in our diets, not add more, right? Whyincludebutter in coffee, especially when we’re so used to having a Double-Double?

There are several reasons why you should consider it: for one thing, it tastes great, giving your coffee a delicious, creamy, sweet taste without the need for sugar; it could be the brain power booster you're looking for; and it can be an effective part of your weight loss strategy! MCT oil is what makes this recipe so powerful.

LifeproofCoffee is so much more than just adding butter. Read on and give it a shot!

Bulletproof Coffeeand the Keto Diet

Bulletproof coffee is the perfect addition to a low-carb, high-fat diet, especially the Ketogenic diet. The body primarily derives energy from glucose, which it gets by converting carbohydrates. By withholding carbs from your body, you can put your body through a natural metabolic process known as ketosis. In this state, the body burns fat instead of glucose, and the liver will break down the fats and produce ketones for fuel. In the Keto Diet, you're consuminga lot offats, an adequate supply of protein, and very, very few carbs - as little as 35g of total carbs (all the carbs available in the food) and 20g of net carbs (the "usable" carbs) per day!

If you're undertaking the Keto diet, Bulletproof coffee is a great substitute for sugared or flavoured coffees to which you might have been addicted. It’ll also help you replace a lot of other carbs in your diet by decreasing your appetite. You might find you won't be reaching for that 10 a.m. donut anymore, but rather feeling fuller, longer.

Bulletproof XCT Oil and Your Brain

While carbs might feel great for your emotions after atough day, they couldhave the opposite effect on your gut. It’s hitting that pleasure center, sure, but it's also feeding bad bacteria in your gut that could be causing the craving, strengthening them for future cravings! The Keto diet, however, with its emphasis on fewer carbs and more fats, could be good for your brain. Adding Bulletproof coffee with XCT Oil makes it even better.

But coffee is already good for my brain, you might be saying. It won't work until I've had a cup.The caffeine will certainly jumpstart your day, but to keep your brain healthy, it needs the right source of energy.Your brain runs on glucose, but the body can turn protein into glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis, making the fat and proteins essential for consumption.[i] And remember those ketones the liver produced by breaking down fat? Brain cells can also use them, and studies have shown that metabolizing medium chain triglycerides (the "MCT" in MCT oil) produces ketones that can cross the blood-brain barrier, providing a direct source of energy for the brain.[ii]

What separates MCT from Bulletproof’s XCT Oil? MCTs are usually derived from coconut oil, as is XCT Oil, but the latter is super concentrated – six times more concentrated in caprylic and capric fatty acids than ordinary coconut oil. This concentration will provide more fatty acids for your body to metabolize, turning them into ketones more easily.

Lifeproof Butter: Grass-fed Ghee

The next step in making an upgraded coffee is adding one notorious ingredient: butter. Don’t worry, it’s not exactly butter we're using, it's butter ghee, clarified butter that's beensimmered to separate the milk solids from the fats. What comes out from this process is a golden liquid almost completelywithout lactose and casein.

The clarifying step not only makes ghee a better-tolerated food for those with dairy sensitivities; it’s another ingredient that can help with weight loss. It’s a great, clean fat that fits right at home with your Ketogenic diet, giving the coffee an excellent substance and flavour. It’s the perfect substitute for cream, and will help to eliminate the craving for carbs you would otherwise experience.

Bulletproof coffee is really simple to make. This recipe is for one upgraded cup.

  • 2 ½ tablespoons Bulletproof Coffee Beans
  • 1 teaspoon (to begin with)XCT Oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons Butter Ghee

Grind the beans however you choose to grind them, and then brew them however you choose to brew them. Bulletproof recommends a French Press, asthis methodpreserves the coffee oils that might get filtered out of a standard coffee maker.

Melt your butter ghee in a separate pot, or add itand the XCT Oil straight to the coffee, andblend it – either in a standing blender or with a hand blender ina pot. You’ll end up with a creamy, frothy coffee.

XCT Oil is powerful stuff – if you’re not used to it, it can upset your digestive system. Start with 1 teaspoon a day, and over a week or so, add more and moreyou're putting1 – 2 tablespoons in your coffee.
