In a stunning display of skill and leadership, Léa Palacio-Tellier has been crowned Canada Soccer's 2025 Futsal Player of the Year! This incredible achievement comes after her stellar performance leading Canada to the inaugural FIFA Women's Futsal World Cup. Talk about making history!
This Montreal native, at just 28 years old, has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with. She also earned the title of best goalkeeper at the inaugural 2025 CONCACAF W Futsal Championship back in May.
During the group stage, the Canadian captain was a wall, conceding only four goals. The team then triumphed over Mexico in a nail-biting penalty shootout during the semi-final, followed by a victory against Panama in the final. Palacio-Tellier's presence was undeniably crucial.
Palacio-Tellier played in all three of Canada's games at the World Cup held in the Philippines last month.
"Lea was a leader throughout our journey," said Canada futsal coach Alexandre Da Rocha. "After winning the Golden Gloves (Award) at CONCACAF (W Championship), she went on to be our most consistent player during the World Cup. Her performances throughout the year fully reflect why she is deserving of this recognition."
But here's where it gets interesting: The winner was selected by the Canadian futsal team staff. What do you think about the selection process? Does it give the right people the power to decide?
