Indonesian Rising Star Veda Ega Pratama Steps Up to Moto3 in 2026
After a stellar performance in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, where he finished second to Brian Uriarte this season, 17-year-old Veda Ega Pratama is set to make a significant leap in his racing career. With the age limit for Grand Prix competitions waived for him next year, Pratama is poised to join the Moto3 grid in 2026.
The young Indonesian talent has been a beneficiary of the Astra Honda Racing Team's rider program in Indonesia. Sky Sport Italy has confirmed that Pratama will be promoted to Moto3 with the Honda Team Asia next year. This move comes as no surprise, given his impressive performances and the support he has received.
Veda's promotion is accompanied by the rise of his championship rival, Brian Uriarte, who will embark on a full campaign in Moto3 with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team in 2026. He will replace David Munoz at the Dynavolt Intact GP team for the latter part of 2025. Additionally, Hakim Danish, who finished in third place, has also announced his venture into Moto3 with the MSi Moto3 team next year.
Another Japanese rider, Taiyo Furosato, is also rumored to be making a similar step up. After securing his first Moto3 victory at Sepang, Furosato's promotion to Moto2 with Honda Team Asia is expected to be finalized soon. Negotiations are reportedly complete, with Furosato set to join the Moto2 category and Pratama taking his place in Moto3.
The future of other Honda Team Asia riders, Tatchakorn Buasri in Moto3 and Mario Suryo Aji in Moto2, remains uncertain. However, Aji is likely to stay with the team, reuniting with Furosato next year after their successful collaboration in the Moto3 category in 2022 and 2023.
