What are the Colours of the wires on a Honeywell motorized valve? ›

Honeywell 28mm zone valve operation (V4043H1106)

Five of these wires are the same as 22mm 2-port valve. Green/yellow is Earth, blue is Neutral, brown is Live (or Line) to the motor, grey and orange are connected to the end switch and form part of a separate circuit.

The yellow wires power the zone valve. Once the thermostat calls and the valve opens it closes an end switch (connected to the red leads) which calls in the aquastat relay.

Thermostat Wiring Tips

If your thermostat controls your heat, you will have a white wire. The Y wire is yellow and connects to your air conditioning compressor. The G wire is green and connects to the fan. Rc and Rh: The red wire(s) are the power source for your thermostat.

The protective ground is green or green with yellow stripe. The neutral is white, the hot (live or active) single phase wires are black , and red in the case of a second active. Three-phase lines are red, black, and blue.

The positive wires in a modern AC setup would have black, red, and blue cable sheaths. The negative wire would have a white cable sheath. If a ground wire is present, it should have a green cable sheath.

Active wire: The active wire, which carries the electrical current, was typically coloured red in the old wiring system. Signal wires connect a point to the main grid. Neutral wire: The neutral wire, which completes the circuit and carries the return current, was commonly coloured black in the old wiring system.

The 3 reds joined together will be live in, live out (to the next light) and live down to the switch.

They spring return to the closed position when the power is removed. Flow direction should be in through Port 'A' and out through Port 'B'. A micro-switch is fitted inside the actuator (rated 3 (1)A 230V AC resistive) which makes contact when the valve is fully open.

There are 4 wires: orange (switched live), grey (hot water off), brown & white (heating on) and blue (neutral). I was expecting the orange to become live once the valve had moved to the heating position but that's not the case. It does become live and fire the boiler when hot water is selected.

What is the grey wire on the Y plan? ›

Essentially you've got 5 cores in the cable from the 3 port valve, White, Grey, Orange, Blue and Green/Yellow. White will terminate to your relay to signal when the central heating is required. Grey will terminate to your relay to signal the hot water to not be on.

C wires, whether blue or other color, may apply to every thermostat, but blue C wires are primarily used for thermostats that are attached to a heat pump. This wire connects to terminal B on your thermostat.
