Frankie Muniz Reunites With Malcolm in The Middle Costars Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek  (2025)

Malcolm in the Middle’s Erik Per Sullivan Publicly Seen For First Time In 18 Years

Bryan Cranston and Jane Kacmarek aren’t the boss of Frankie Muniz, now.

And yet, the Malcolm in the Middle stars reunited in a sweet photo, with Frankie, who played titular Malcolm, posing with his on-screen parents, Bryan and Jane—who played Hal and Lois, respectively—ahead of the show’s upcoming reboot.

Alongside the sweet picture shared to X April 22, Frankie wrote, “Always good to have Mom and Dad around!”

The photo proves that production for the upcoming reboot has officially commenced, with the aforementioned actors, as well as Justin Bertfield and Christopher Masterson as Malcolm's older brothers Reese and Francis, returning to their roles. Meanwhile, the roles for Malcolm’s little brothers Dewey and Jamie have been replaced by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark and Anthony Timpano.

And as teased in the series finale of the original series, another child has joined Malcolm’s family. Vaughan Murray will round out the Wilkersons as Malcolm’s youngest sister Kelly.

Erik Per Sullivan, who portrayed Dewey for the original series, has since given up acting since the original series wrapped in 2006. For what it’s worth, Erik, now 33, was only 14 when the show wrapped, taking up the role of Malcolm’s prodigy brother when he was just 7 years old.

As his on-set mother Jane acknowledged during an appearance at Paris Manga Sci-Fi Show last April, “He wasn’t interested in acting at all.”

Similarly, twins Lukas Rodriguez and James Rodriguez, who played baby brother Jamie for 35 episodes of the original series, have given up acting since their time sharing the role.

Still, the rest of the cast is eager to reunite for the reboot, with Bryan—who is also known for his iconic role of Walter White on Breaking Bad—vying for the opportunity for years.

“I’ve been trying to get this going for 12 years. I was the one poking the bear, going, ‘Let’s do it, let’s do it, let’s do it,’” Bryan told Variety in an interview published last month, going on to call the new show “funny” and “heartfelt."

Indeed, the new four-part reboot will follow Frankie’s Malcolm as he and his daughter, Leah—played by Keely Karstan—as they reunite with their extended family for his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary.
