How to fix a derelict ship in Starfield? ›

Fixing the ship happens at the mainframe terminal on the lower deck, using 1 piece of Ship Parts and 1 piece of Semimetal Wafer (both of which can be found in the storage crate next to the terminal).

Location: Travel to the Pup I system, a system overlapping with Sirius and to the west of Alpha Centauri. Upon scanning the lone, barren planet, a ship is identified off its dark side. Upon traveling to the ship you'll find yourself in wreckage with the derelict ship among it.

I can't seem to dock with derelict ships. You have to get within 500m of them. Once there, make sure you're in the correct scan mode (toggle modes by pressing F on PC). You should see a prompt to dock pop up (it's very hard to see due to UI choices) and just press the button (it's R on PC) and you dock.

Once players interact with a vessel's pilot seat, the ship becomes theirs. However, they will still need to perform at least one Grav Jump or land on a planet to establish it as their Home Ship. Players can loot the stolen ship's lockers and Cargo Hold for a chance to find Contraband items and other valuables.

To steal a ship in Starfield is a fairly simple process once you know how: Find the ship you want to steal and disable it in combat, using weapon targeting systems to specifically take out its engines without destroying it. At this point you should be able to board the disabled ship.

To restore the ship's systems, 1 piece of Ship Parts is required, several of which can be found on board; there is one in the storage crate near the mainframe computer in the ship's Engineering Bay. Reboot the mainframe after repair and system operation will be restored.

Joining the Starfield Crimson Fleet pirate faction requires a bit of undercover UC work at first, but you can commit to the space pirate life if antagonising the Settled Systems calls to you. The Crimson Fleet is certainly the most cutthroat of the various Starfield factions that you can join.

Instead, if you want to take over a hostile starship, then you must board it and kill the crew. Once you eliminate all enemies, go to the ship's pilot seat to take it over. This ship will become your home ship when you use grav jumping, land on a planet, or fast travel.

How many Ship Parts to repair in Starfield? ›

One ship part repairs four per cent of your ship's hull(s) for 10 seconds, as the game puts it, so you will want to track them down as often as possible and stockpile them within your ship's cargo hold. These items do have a mass of 10.00 each, so you won't be able to carry too many of them while out and about.
