The Dallas Cowboys still have a path to win the NFC East, even after their Thursday night defeat to the Detroit Lions, and a little late-season help on Monday night made that path a bit more plausible. Hats off to the Los Angeles Chargers for knocking off the Philadelphia Eagles. That overtime win matters a lot for Dallas.
Dallas’ loss, combined with the narrow aid they received elsewhere in Week 14, made a Wild Card berth seem increasingly unlikely. Yet there’s a solid argument that the most realistic route to a Cowboys division title now lies in winning out and watching the Eagles absorb two more losses.
Remaining Eagles schedule:
- Las Vegas Raiders
- at Washington Commanders
- at Buffalo Bills
- Washington Commanders
If the Eagles had won, Dallas would have needed fewer losses among that group, which would have been harder to achieve. Monday night’s result changed the calculus and keeps the door open for Dallas.
Meanwhile, Dallas still faces a genuine chance to meet this ambitious goal, despite last week’s setback.
Remaining Cowboys games:
- Minnesota Vikings
- Los Angeles Chargers
- at Washington Commanders
- at New York Giants
The Cowboys will confront the Chargers again next Sunday. If that matchup sticks to the broader plan of helping Dallas win the NFC East, then the team could still pull it off.
