I beat the original, but it was frustratingly difficult. Not satisfying, but rather annoying and strict.

Have they re-tuned it somewhat?

Yeah. On the level select it let's you pick the old difficulty or the new rebalanced one.

Is this good? I'm one of the dozens hankering for a Bloodrayne reboot.

So I've put quite a bit of time into the PS4 version and it has issues with dropped inputs. Move sets are based on delays during combos. Delaying a button press will result in a split blade attack at neutral, or a dive attack at forward. Mashing attack quickly results in an auto combo that ends in a knock back roundhouse kick that sends enemies sailing, piling them into each other.

Dropped inputs are making it impossible to rely on these different sets for the appropriate situations. It makes higher levels of play and speed-running incredibly difficult. I don't recall this being an issue in previous games. I've tried 3 different controllers and the issue remains. I've spoken to at least one person who has experienced the issue with the PS5 version.

Edit: I reached out to Ziggurat'a site support and they're looking into it.

It's pretty good IMO. Nice art and a great soundtrack by Jake Kaufman (Virt). The new default difficulty is also less frustrating than the original.

Uh, is the 8-Bit soundtrack missing? I can't get it to activate with any button combinations.

It looks like the trophy for unlocking it is gone as well.

The achievement is gone but the 8-bit soundtrack is still there.
Once you beat the game it opens the art gallery, and one of the pics is a pixelated Rayne with the code.
You have to enter the code on the level select screen, tested it and it works, not sure if you have to beat the game to unlock it.

The code is holding down both analogue sticks, LB, RB, LT, RT, select and start all at once on the level select screen.

Love Rayne and her first two games, especially the second.

I looked forward to this on 360 and only got a few stages in before bailing. The combat didn't click for me, mostly that I felt I was missing a crucial element. Like playing DMC with aerials or Bayonetta without Witch Time or Dodge Offset.

I recall you were meant to yo yo damage with sucking blood, but I was always on the back foot. That and the platforming was brutal.

I'd love to give it another go if someone can explain the combat system to me.

Thanks! I stand corrected.

What an odd thing to lock away behind game completion though.

Yeah, I assume you can just use the code off the bat anyway, but I wasn't sure if it was stil there until i beat it and happened to see the code in the art gallery.

While the combat initially seems deep, it should be treated like a puzzle. You can style on enemies and pull off some cool acrobatics, but Rayne's vulnerability and the penalty for letting an enemy attack get through make it too risky if you are trying to shoot for a high score. Betrayal should be approached as a trial and error platformer. A good run should look like parkour and probably take as many fails as a section in Super Meat Boy to get there.

Did anyone here who owns the game ever get to the credits?

They brought back Bloodrayne. That was an old PS2 game that had a Uwe Boll adaptation right?

Could I get a screenshot of the voice cast? I was curious about it earlier.

Yeah, a duology of PS2 games that got three live-action films and a 2D side-scrolling follow-up from 2011 that's the basis for Fresh Bites.

Edit: Shit I guess I could just not be lazy and type it out.

Original Rayne - Jessie Seely
Rayne - Laura Bailey
Kagan - Troy Baker
Raven and Brimstoner 2 - Todd Haberkorn
Brimstoner 1 - Patrick Seitz

Jessie Seely's combat and movement grunts appear to be reused. Laura Bailey is dubbed over speech bubble scenes. They literally inserted the new voice acting over the game audio, lol. The text bubble "dotdotdot" still plays when the text appears. I figure they would have thought to remove that sound effect now that there's actual spoken dialogue.

Thank you. Would it be okay if I took a screenshot of the video to show to a voiceover aficionado site to verify who voiced who?

Damn there were three movies? And I never heard about a game in 2011.

Yeah, a whole trilogy of movies. Natassia Malthe, who played Ayane in D.O.A.: Dead or Alive, would portray Rayne in the sequels.

Holy shit, I forgot they made a DOA movie. I never saw it, but I really want to. (Yes, I know it's probably terrible. I don't care lol.)
