This ambitious piece will be a 25-meter by 25-meter enclosure filled with stones from various graveyards across Dumfries and Galloway, creating a powerful and reflective space.
The artist's inspiration stems from a profound personal experience. After the death of his ex-wife and mother of his children in 2008, Goldsworthy visited her grave and encountered a pile of stones, which sparked an epiphany. He realized that when gravediggers make space for a coffin, they often leave the displaced stones behind, untouched. This discovery ignited his artistic vision.
Goldsworthy's approach to art is characterized by its ephemeral nature, creating works that are often fleeting and temporary.
