Alabama's Crimson Tide just got a major boost! Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Kedrick Bingley-Jones is the newest addition, joining the team through the transfer portal. This move signals a strategic reinforcement for the Crimson Tide's defensive line, and it's got fans buzzing.
Bingley-Jones, a 6-foot-2, 320-pound player, made his commitment after a visit to Tuscaloosa. He entered the transfer portal on January 7th and is looking to secure another year of eligibility. Initially, he was a highly-regarded four-star recruit who signed with North Carolina as part of the 2024 recruiting class, ranking as the No. 20 defensive lineman in the nation.
But here's where it gets interesting: Bingley-Jones has a history with injuries. He spent four seasons with the Tar Heels before transferring to Mississippi State. In his final year with the Bulldogs, he played in 13 games, recording 25 tackles and 0.5 tackles-for-loss. However, his season was cut short due to injury, mirroring a trend from his time at North Carolina. He earned a redshirt in 2020 due to injury and missed games in 2023 for the same reason.
Bingley-Jones shared his excitement with Bama247, stating, "I've been a fan of Alabama's since I was a little kid. I actually still have my Mark Ingram jersey. Coach (Freddie) Roach sold me with how he said he sees me fitting along the front and I still get to play in the best conference in college football. It was a no brainer." He also expressed his willingness to earn the respect of the fanbase, acknowledging his current ranking.
The defensive line was a key area of focus heading into the transfer portal, and the Crimson Tide is off to a strong start. Starters Tim Keenan and LT Overton are out of eligibility, and other players have entered the portal, including Keon Keeley, James Smith, and Kelby Collins. However, players like Edric Hill, Jordan Renaud, and Jeremiah Beaman are expected to play a significant role.
Alabama also signed a large defensive line class as part of the No. 2 overall signing class, including players like Jamarion Matthews, Nolan Wilson, and Kamhariyan Johnson.
Bingley-Jones is the second transfer portal pickup at his position, joining former USC standout Devan Thompkins, who committed earlier.
