5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (2022)

Mallorcais the largest of the Balearic Islands and one of the most popular resorts in the Mediterranean. Many travellers (including us) fall in love with Mallorca at first sight!

There is an amazingly diverse nature where you can get the best pictures for your Instagram for at least a year: mountains, olive and orchards, green meadows, warm, bright blue sea and beaches with the purest milky white sand.

With sandy beaches, deep blue emerald waters and beautiful coves, you can easily understand why Mallorquins are so proud of their island.

To make it easier to decide where to go to get the best pictures on the island and the best places to visit in Mallorca, read this article.

1. Palma de Mallorca: Cathedral and Beyond

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (1)

Capital of the Balearic archipelago is the place where many unique architectural attractions are concentrated in Palma de Mallorca. The most striking examples can be considered the Cathedral of St. Mary and the Bellver Castle.Bellver Castle, with its wholly unusual and unique architecture, is devoted to a separate article on this site.

The Cathedral, an example ofpompous Gothic architecture, began to be built in 1230. The work dragged on for several centuries, and in the twentieth century the great Antoni Gaudi himself was engaged in the restoration of the interior.

Numerous windows, decorated with multicoloured stained-glass windows from the 14th-15th centuries, make this Cathedral one of the brightest in the Mediterranean. A unique attraction of the temple is this large Gothic rosette with an internal diameter of 11.14 meters (for comparison: in the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague, the rosette is 10 meters).

(Video) Top 10 Places To Visit In Mallorca Spain

On sunny days inside the building, you can witness such an exciting and wonderful phenomenon: by 12:00 the sun’s rays shine on the main rose, and multicoloured glare is projected on the opposite wall.

You should see the main shrine of the Cathedral – the ark of the Life-giving Cross, all covered with gilding and precious stones.

From April to the end of September, visitors to the temple have the opportunity to climb to its roof, but not independently, but as part of an excursion.

Such a tour not only allows you to look at the famous landmark from a new angle but also gives excellent views for photos of Mallorca – no description will convey the beauty of the landscapes of the city and its surroundings.

2. Carthusian monastery in Valldemossa

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (2)

Valldemossais a beautiful old town surrounded by mountains and forests. To go from Palma de Mallorca along a picturesque road, you need to take a bus for 40 minutes.

In Valldemossa, you can walk along the narrow cobbled streets and see beautiful houses decorated with flowers in pots. You can go to the observation platforms, from which the city and its surroundings are visible at a glance.

But the main attraction of Valldemossa, which many tourists try to see during their stay in Mallorca, is a 13th-century monastery built inside an Arab palace. In the monastery complex itself, a church in the style of classicism, and a museum-pharmacy with medical utensils of the 17th-18th centuries are of interest.

Cells No. 2 and No. 4 are a separate museum. In 1838-1839, lovers Frederic Chopin and Georges Sand lived in these cells. Now in the museum, you can see their personal belongings, the manuscript by Georges Sand “Winter in Mallorca”, the piano and Chopin’s letters, his death mask.

3. Serra de Tramuntana mountains and Cape Formentor

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (3)

TheSerra de Tramuntana Mountains, which stretch along the northwestern coast of the island, is sometimes called the Ridge of Mallorca and is one of the best places to visit in Mallorca. The ridge is 90 km long, 15 km wide – and this is almost 30% of the entire territory of the island.

(Video) MALLORCA TRAVEL GUIDE | 4 Hidden Beaches + 5 Incredible Restaurants | EMZ & NICK

The Serra de Tramuntana is one of the must-see sights of Mallorca!

Emerald-turquoise water, mountains of bizarre and even monstrous forms – from here the great Gaudí drew inspiration. The Sa Calobra bay with great pedestrian tunnels of the early 20th century and stones that seem to be floating above the water.

A small mountain village of Deia with an inconspicuous path on a steep bank. The Cala Tuent bay, the Lluc monastery, numerous viewpoints and hiking trails are worth a visit. You need to take a good camera and come here.

However, no photos and descriptions of this attraction of the island of Mallorca in Spain can convey the atmosphere prevailing here, the fabulous blend of sea and mountain air, the spirit of freedom.

You can see the Serra de Tramuntana by getting a guided tour and taking a bus with a group. But if you go around Mallorca on your own by car, you can see many more attractions than as part of a tour.

The MA10 route goes through the entire mountain range, it will take at least a whole day to inspect this route and its branches, and ideally, you can make a three-day trip.

There is an exit from the MA10 highway to Cape Formentor, where you can park your car and relax on the beach. There are beautiful Mediterranean landscapes: sheer cliffs with an old lighthouse at the top, green forests, turquoise sea.

There is also an observation deck, where you can see the ocean, Playa de Formentor beach, the rocky coast of Cala Mitjana beach and the cliff with the Torre del Verger tower from a 232-meter height.

4. Alaro Castle

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (4)

Alaro Castleis incredibly popular with hikers and photographers. It is enough to watch the video and photos of the sights of Mallorca to understand what attracts people here. Of course, these are unique views, and also a special pacification.

(Video) MALLORCA 🇪🇸 Travel Guide | top 5 best places to visit in Mallorca Spain

The castle as such has long been gone, and on the 825-meter mountain peak, there are only a few worn fragments of an ancient structure: fortress walls with entrance gates, 5 watchtowers, a 15th-century church. From the mountain, you can enjoy picturesque views of Palma de Mallorca on one side and Serra de Tramuntana on the other.

The castle is located in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, about 7 km from the town of Alaro. This is one of those sights of Majorca that you should see it by going to it by car. From the town of Alaro along a picturesque serpentine road in 30 minutes you can drive up to the parking lot at the restaurant.

Here you can leave your car and then walk on your own along the GR-221 trail (Ruta de Piedra en Seco). The trail starts approximately 200 m in front of the restaurant. In 30-40 minutes, a pleasant, unhurried walk will lead you straight to the top.

5. Travel to the city of Soller on a vintage train

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (5)

The self-made journey from Palma de Mallorca to the city of Soller on an old train is a kind of attraction with a trip back in time. The train itself, created at the beginning of the twentieth century, looks more like an open railway platform with very narrow seats.

The railway track winds along a mountain serpentine periodically go into tunnels, passes along a narrow bridge – sometimes it is even breathtaking, and it becomes a little scary from such adventures.

The scenery outside the window is beautiful: majestic mountains, picturesque villages, gardens with lemon and orange trees.

By the way, you can leave from Palma de Mallorca from Bunyola (intermediate station between Palma de Mallorca and Soller), since the most picturesque landscapes start from there. Besides, it will be cheaper: travel to Soller from Palma de Mallorca costs 25€, and from Bunol – 15€.

By bus, a ticket for the flight “Palma de Mallorca – Soller” costs only 2€.

Self-organized travel is notable for the fact that you can choose any option, even the “opposite”.

The fact is that the traditional destination is almost always a large crowd of people and a problem with buying tickets for the next flights. It is more convenient to do this: take a bus to Soller, and from Soller in the opposite direction go by train.

As a rule, the cars are half-empty, you can choose any place yourself.

In Soller itself, there is also something to do and see. For example, take a walk along the old narrow streets, go to the central Cathedral (admission is free), visit a museum, or sit in a restaurant.

This town has another exciting attraction of Mallorca and Spain: the wooden tram “Orange Express“, which since 1913 transported people and goods from the city to the port. Even now, for 7€, this tram can take you from Soller to the Port de Soller embankment, and there you can see the landscapes, sit in a cafe, and swim.

6. Dragon caves

5 + 1 Best Places to Visit in Mallorca | DayTrip4U (6)

One of the first places in the list of natural attractions in Mallorca, which are worth seeing, is occupied by theDragon Cavesnear the town of Porto Cristo.

These caves are a series of mysterious halls and secret grottos, clean underground lakes, many stalactites and stalagmites. The most interesting is the Main Hall, the Cave of Louis, the Well of the Vampires, the Hall of Louis Armand, the Cyclops observation deck.

In the Dragon Caves, there is an excursion tourist route with a length of 1700 m. The tour lasts 45 minutes, and its program includes a live concert of classical music and a boat trip on Lake Martel (walk 5 minutes, there is a massive queue of those who wish).

The show is unique: the musicians play in boats that glide along the smooth surface of Lake Martel, while special lighting simulates the dawn on the lake in the underground hall.
